ALBANY, N.Y. — Fire damaged an apartment building in Albany.

Firefighters were called to the scene along 3rd Street around 9:30 a.m. Friday.

Flames were seen coming from the second floor.  Responders were afraid, at one point, the fire would spread to neighboring properties.

The fire damaged one building next door, melting some of the siding and causing ceiling damage.

Officials say nobody was hurt.  It's unclear if anyone was at home when the fire started.

Albany’s Fire Chief says the building will need significant repairs before it can be considered livable.

"Heavy damage in the rear second floor and probably some and water damage throughout," said Warren Abiel, Albany Fire Department Chief.

The Red Cross is assisting the people impacted by the fire.

It’s unclear what caused the fire.
