ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. -- Family members of the two officers killed in Thursday's attempted Pasquotank prison escape speak out.

Correctional officer Justin Smith and correction enterprise manager and former guard Veronica Darden died in the attempted escape, in which four inmates started a fire inside the sewing plant in the prison.

The Smith family said that Justin would take care of anyone who needed it and described him as being the family's rock.

Audrey Moore, Darden's mother, said to know her daughter was to love her.

Moore lost another daughter three years ago.

Even though she doesn't know who took Darden's life, she says, "God's going to take care of them because I already prayed for them. God is going to take care of them. I'm not worried about them too much."

Three other employees remain in the hospital.

The prisoners are currently being held at a different high security location.
