GREEN BAY — A Wisconsin police officer is getting viral attention after helping a child to feel special on his birthday after no one picked him up from school.

According to a post on Facebook, the boy had been waiting outside his elementary school on Monday when Officer Darryl Robinson got a call to check on him.

The child’s parent is in jail and the school reportedly had no other family contacts.

When Robinson learned it was the boy’s birthday, he treated him to McDonald’s and a ride in his patrol car.

“Thank you to Officer Robinson for taking some extra time to celebrate the child’s birthday; we are so proud to have him part of the GBPD team!” the department wrote.

According to the post, the officer eventually dropped the child off after locating his family.

Robinson’s gesture is going viral after the department posted the story on its Facebook page.
