FORT DRUM, N.Y. — The Department of Defense has released information about the number of sexual assault reports made at U.S. military installations around the world from 2013 through 2016.

According to the release, Fort Drum had 49 reports of sexual assault in 2013, 79 reports in 2014, 49 in 2015 and 76 reports of sexual assault in 2016.

In a statement, 10th Mountain Division Commander, Maj. Gen. Walter Piatt said we cannot be afraid to talk about sexual harassment and assault.

"Whether it is through victim assistants keeping constant contact, intensive unit training that includes what happens after a report, or by leader focused training that takes into account  signs of retaliation and vulnerability, we must dedicate ourselves to providing an environment that encourages victims to report and supports them through the process," Piatt said.
