BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Police are working to extradite a North Florida teen who is wanted in connection to his grandmother's death.

Logan Mott, 15, was stopped by U.S. Border Patrol agents Friday night after making an illegal U-turn on the Peace Bridge.

Once agents ran his information through the system, they discovered a warrant stemming from Neptune Beach, Florida.

Police there say it's for stealing his grandmother's 2015 Dodge Dart, the same vehicle he was stopped in.

Mott is also wanted by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in connection to the death of his grandmother, 53-year-old Kristina French.

Both Mott and French went missing on Wednesday.

Deputies in Jacksonville say a body matching her description was found in Neptune Beach on Thanksgiving Day.

"It was a normal inspection at the border. We encounter wrong turns all the time. I mean obviously he is underage, but believe it or not, that happens as well. And as far as the actual interview itself, the primary officers were able to conduct their interview and they were able to take him into custody. There were no other issues,” said Aaron Bowker of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Border Patrol did search the vehicle Mott was driving, but say they cannot reveal the results, due to the ongoing investigation.

They did confirm that the vehicle is being held at customs.

Spectrum News was able to reach Mott’s mother, Carrie Campbell-Mott, via Facebook.

She said that she is "not allowing" police to interview her minor son “until he has proper legal representation.”

And as for the charges and claims against him, Campbell-Mott said her son “has zero history of violence and is a good kid,” and adds that “He loved Kristina. [There] never was an issue between them.”

Police said Sunday that Florida officials have arrived in Western New York, and that a extradition hearing for Logan Mott is expected sometime this week, possibly as early as Monday.

Buffalo Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Neptune Beach Police, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office are still investigating this case.
