ROCHESTER, N.Y. — An early morning meeting of the Board of Education for the Rochester City School District had one priority in mind: to ease health concerns from students, staff and families at a shared school building on St Paul Street.

While three different state agencies say trichloroethylene levels in the air are safe at the former Bausch+Lomb manufacturing site, some parents remain worried.

Now, the school board plans to prepare two alternative buildings in the city of Rochester to accommodate a possible influx of kids from Rochester Prep, while also giving All City High students an option to relocate as well.

In a resolution passed Saturday morning, the Rochester City School District Board voted to keep open the All City High location on St. Paul Street, while also making available alternative locations at 30 Hart Street and 1 Austin Street for parents who wish to send their children elsewhere.

"If a family member or student was not to feel comfortable at 690, and again, that space is safe,” said Rochester City School District Board President Van White, “but notwithstanding that evidence, if a person is not feeling comfortable, we want to be known as a district that looks after families, not only their educational needs, but their emotional needs as well. Those additional properties will provide that space."

Rochester Prep says it plans to move to 1001 Lake Ave the first week of January. There’s no word yet on when the new facilities will be available for the influx of students.
