A strong cold front crossing North Carolina will bring everything from gusty winds to snow to cold wind chills Tuesday through early Wednesday -- all for the mountains. Wind Advisories will be in effect Tuesday for Ashe, Watuaga, and Avery Counties for wind gusts potentially reaching 55 mph out of the northwest. With temperatures continuing to cool after the front passes through, cold air coupled with continuing strong winds will allow wind chills to drop to near 5 below by Wednesday morning, prompting Wind Chill Advisories in the High Country as well. Additionally, a brief shot of snow will be possible along the Tennessee border, with 1"-2" of accumulating snow possible. Hence, Winter Weather Advisories will also be in effect for the same locations through early Wednesday.

While the Piedmont will be looking at breezy conditions with the occasional wind gust from time to time, they should remain fairly quiet through the next few days. Wednesday will be chilly, with highs in the 40s, before temperatures make a rebound back towards normal by Thursday.

Light snow showers will be possible early Thursday morning across the mountain counties before a slight chance for showers makes a comeback to the forecast Friday across the Piedmont.
