New York State Police troopers responded to 54 accidents in which road conditions were a secondary factor in the greater Capital Region on Saturday.

A local towing company is asking the public to practice safer driving habits during this time of year. T&T Towing in Cohoes, for one, is seeing a boost in business -- for all the wrong reasons.

More accidents means more towing, but T&T owner Tom Brennan says it's not the kind of business his company is looking for.

In Albany County alone, the sheriff's office responded to 30 weather-related accidents in just a 5-hour span. Brennan says there’s something about the first snowfall or two of the season that causes drivers to forget how to drive.

"A lot of the times, we're out there by ourselves," Brennan said. "You break down with a flat tire or a mechanical problem because of this weather; our state police can’t be out there, our local law enforcement can’t be out there watching us, because they have other things to do. They have limited resources. That’s why it's so important [that] we ask people to slow down, move over."

Those tips are especially important for residents of Saratoga. Monday night, the city's Department of Public Works issued a snow emergency, beginning at 9 p.m.
