For the members of a gym in New Windsor, running a yearly race has a special benefit for the community: helping local children in need.

"When the spirit that motivates you is about generosity and love and compassion, that just pushes you even harder," said Annette McTigue. "It warms my heart as a mother to be able to participate in something like this that's going to make someone's children happy."

Volunteers from Hudson Valley Fit Body Boot Camp got to see the results of their 5K Santa sprint fundraiser: a big donation to Toys for Tots.

"I get to help people change their lives, but we also get to be part of giving back," said Boot Camp owner Alex Panet. "It's really a tremendous honor that I take very seriously, so I make sure we give back as much as we can whenever we can."

Panet said the event started in 2014 with a conversation, and more than $10,000 in toys has been donated since then.

"There are kids in our community, believe it or not, who wake up without anything under the tree, so I hope this makes a tremendous impact," said Panet.
