SAN ANTONIO — A pedestrian was struck and killed after running across the street on the city’s West Side Wednesday night.

The crash happened a little after 7 p.m. Wednesday at Culebra Road near Benrus Boulevard.

According to a witness, a Hispanic male was walking west around 4200 Culebra Road. While looking down, he started to cross Culebra without looking up and stepped in front of a white Jeep Commander that was travelling westbound.

San Antonio police say the driver of the Jeep could not stop in time to avoid hitting the pedestrian and stopped to help. Police say the driver did not appear to be intoxicated or impaired in any way.

The pedestrian, unidentified at this time, was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS.
