ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Local firefighters were honored on Thursday for going above and beyond in the face of danger.

Many of the heroic acts occurred during events which shook the community.

Six firefighters received the distinguished First Class Service Award for their efforts during the fatal High Street Fire in September of 2016.

"This gives us an opportunity to say to them, we recognize what you do, we recognize how you put your life in danger and how you assist the community and this is just a small amount of what they do every day to make our community better," said Willie Jackson, the Rochester Fire Department Deputy Chief.
