LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Lexington city leaders say the town's rapidly growing and it’s trying to accommodate the boom by reshaping its economic development strategic plan.

The city recently invited people to fill out a survey about economic development and the future of the city.

"Really an explosion the last five years,” said city manager, Alan Carson. “People are starting to discover Lexington."

A consulting agency plans to analyze the responses and release the results and possible follow-up next year.

"If businesses are coming here we're having to work pretty hard to find locations,” said Carson. “We have some land, but we just don't have the buildings for them to go in, so we're having to deal with that issue right now."

Businesses that have found space and plan to open include Goose and Monkey Brewhouse in the depot district, an 18 acre property once owned by Lexington Furniture Industries. It will be the first brewhouse in the city.

“We want it to be a destination for people to come down here and be a family-friendly place,” said owner, Brent Moore.

Egger Manufacturing is also coming to Lexington / Davidson County and bringing 770 jobs over 15 years while investing $770 million, according to Carson.

"That influx of people and money, we've got to be ready for them,” said councilmember, Frank Callicutt.  “We hope to draw those people here."

Bring people to not only work but live and play in Lexington.
