BUFFALO, N.Y. — Eight people, including four children, have lost everything in a fire that destroyed their Buffalo home.

The fire started on the first floor of a home on Dewitt Street on Buffalo's West Side just before 4 a.m. Sunday morning. Flames spread to the attic.

Ernest Clanton, who lives there, says his daughter is the reason everyone made it out safely.

"All I know is I was sound asleep at nine, and my daughter came waking me up, 'there's a fire'. And the fire alarms, and my dog was barking, and my daughter actually, my kid got us out, woke us up with the fire alarm and everything," said Clanton.

Investigators are still looking into what sparked the fire.
