HICKORY, N.C. -- Boats covered in Christmas lights made their way down Lake Hickory Saturday evening.

Starting in Bethlehem, more than 20 boats joined in for the Lake Hickory Christmas Parade.

Children from South Mountain Children's Home were aboard singing Christmas carols, alongside Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The owner of Lake Hickory Adventures said he wanted as many people to come out and help the children know they're special.

"Christmas is all about family," said owner Chad Burel. "I'm sure you have heard that on the radio and TV but what about the people who don't have parents, who have been taken from their parents?"

After the boats arrived, guests had the opportunity to take pictures with Santa on the boats.
