JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Wreaths Across America is honoring fallen heroes across the country.

On Saturday, more than 1,000 wreath-laying ceremonies happened nationwide, including at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Hundreds gathered to remember those servicemembers for their sacrifices and laid wreaths in their honor.

This year, organizers say they were able to achieve their goal by raising enough funds to cover all 3,500 graves at the cemetery.

For family members, that community support is a reminder the service of their loved ones is appreciated.

"That pride and patriotism of this country that we care for our fallen and our deceased, it's great to see the community here," said son of deceased servicemember Joseph Brown.

Wreaths Across America of Jacksonville says fundraising and planning for next year's ceremony will begin next month.
