CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- A Caldwell County couple is part of a group being awarded North Carolina's Heritage Award for 2018.

Since 1989, the North Carolina Arts Council has given the Heritage Award to artists across the state. They say it helps deepen awareness of North Carolina's stories, music and artistry.

This year among those artists are Glen and Lula Bolick.

Glen has been playing music and storytelling to area kids for decades.

Lula is a fifth generation potter and traces her pottery roots to her great-grandfather from the 1800s.

"I just think it's good for young people that's coming up to learn," said Lula. "It would be shame to lose an art like this, pottery has been around since the Bible days."

Mrs. Bolick says she used to work in production, and the most pots she ever made was 1,000 in a day.
