A final report has been prepared for the DOT on feasibility for the proposed Inland Port. Some, though, aren't pleased with the study's findings or process.

"During that period of time, we have lost ground as a community. We have missed opportunities for specific warehousing and distribution companies,” said CenterState CEO President & CEO Robert Simpson.

The study found CSX DeWitt Yard to be the "only" viable site right now for the Inland Port project, as it is an active freight yard. Simpson, though, says that site doesn't have sufficient space to expand due to wetlands in the area.

"Here we are, from an economic and community development standpoint, saying that the only viable site to make this investment is a site that actually happens to have limitations for development. This project is all about development," said Simpson.

Simpson envisions a larger space to generate warehouse development and manufacturing jobs. He believes the DeWitt location would amount to a "rail terminal" and that it would be a "massive missed opportunity" for Central New York.

"All the things we were supposed to be looking at were supposed to be transformational. What they put in that 20-page report is not transformational at all," said State Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-127).

Simpson expressed support for the project taking place in Camillus instead, where he says there are 800 to 1,000 acres of land that can be developed.
