SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Three vehicles crashed Monday morning when a vehicle tried to pass a stopped school bus on Syracuse's south side.

Six children were taken to the hospital after the crash, which happened on Midland Avenue. Police say it appears a school bus was stopped at an intersection. The bus driver turned left, and that's when a vehicle behind the school bus hit a second vehicle heading south. A third vehicle then crashed into the second.

A vehicle driven by a 29-year-old had four children, with ages ranging from 1 to 9 years old, as passengers. A vehicle driven by a 28-year-old had a nine- and 11-year-old child inside.

Police categorized all of the injuries suffered by the children as non-life threatening. Police said the driver of the third vehicle, a 43-year-old Syracuse woman, did not suffer any injuries.

The driver of the bus was located and the investigation is ongoing.
