WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Police have a man in custody who barricaded himself in a Winston-Salem home for hours Friday morning.

Investigators arrested Demetrius Gainey after the standoff, and they say he is also connected to a fatal shooting last week.

Officers had been working with U.S. marshals to arrest Gainey in connection to that homicide.

They spotted Gainey driving late Thursday night. As they tried to pull him over, he ran and officers started chasing him.

That’s when Gainey broke into a home on 14th Street with the homeowner inside. Police say that person managed to escape the home.

After about six hours of negotiating with SWAT, Gainey was taken into custody.

He is being held at the Forsyth County Detention Center with no bond. He’s charged with kidnapping, robbery and murder along with other charges.

One person was killed and another wounded at the Hook Social Fish Arcade on Kernersville Road on Dec. 11.

Police say they still are looking for another person they believe is connected to the homicide.
