TROY, N.Y. — The Troy community is continuing to remember the victims of the quadruple homicide on Second Avenue. On Saturday, a vigil was held outside the home where the bodies were discovered days earlier.

It came just hours after 24-year-old Justin Mann and 38-year-old James White were arrested and charged with multiple counts of murder.

Police say the two men killed 36-year-old Shanta Myers, her children 5-year-old Shanise Myers, 11-year-old Jeremiah "J.J." Myers, and her partner 22-year-old Brandi Mells.

"I don't really know what I can say to somebody that can do that to kids," said Khalif Coleman, Shanta's nephew. "I don't know who you are as a person. I just want to ask you ‘why?’"

Maliya Blackwell, who mentored J.J. at the Troy Boys & Girls Club, organized the vigil.

"I feel good but at the same time, it's not going to bring them back," Blackwell said. "That was my little buddy. It's hard."

The family of the victims thanked police for the quick apprehension. They also expressed gratitude to the community for all the support and donations.

GoFundMe page setup for the family has already raised more than $35,000.

"The donations, the funds, we thank you," Coleman said. "We can't ask for anything more."

As for the two suspects charged with the murders, Khalif Coleman says he has one message for them if they are convicted.

"I want you to live for a long time, but I want you to suffer for a long time because we got to suffer," Coleman said. "We got to live on and keep thinking about this. We just can't let you go easily."

The preliminary hearing has been scheduled this week for the two men charged in connection with the Troy quadruple homicide.
