Doctors say the flu virus is spreading at a very high rate right now in Monroe County.

If you haven't already gotten your flu vaccine, doctors say it’s not too late.

Monroe County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza says there have already been 365 lab-confirmed cases of the flu in the county alone.

More than 100 of those cases required hospitalization.

He says the actual number of people who have come down with the virus is likely much higher as doctors sometimes diagnose based on symptoms and not with lab tests.

Mendoza recommends washing your hands frequently and thoroughly, and to stay home from work or school if you get sick.

Symptoms of the flu include fever, body ache, cough and fatigue.

Flu season has already caused the deaths of 12 children across the country according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
