A strong area of low pressure continues to head north along the eastern seaboard taking the snow with it, but leaving the cold behind.

While snow overspread central North Carolina late Wednesday while eastern sections were treated to freezing rain and rain.

A burst of snow dropped four to six inches of snow across Moore County with one to three inches more common across the region.

The coastal region saw the rain change to snow with some locally heavy amounts; Jones County saw seven inches of snow while Goldsboro saw around three inches.

Strong winds and heavy snow made for blizzard-like conditions across the northeast corner of the state. Wind gusts up to 55 mph could be expected through Thursday afternoon.

Sunny skies will be with us as we head into the weekend, with very cold temperatures through Saturday, then a bit of a warm-up by Sunday.

In fact, above normal temperatures are in the forecast for early next week.​
