SALISBURY, N.C. -- The autopsy report in the tragic death of Erica Parsons has been released

According to the State Medical Examiner's Office, Parsons' death was caused by "Homicidal Violence of Undetermined Means."

According to the official report, Parsons' remains showed many signs of fractures in various stages of recovery on her skull, torso, and hands.

Extensive new bone growth indicates many fractures were inflicted prior to death, which is consistent with family reports that Erica suffered extreme abuse at the hands of her adoptive parents prior to her death.

Erica was last seen alive in late 2011. Witnesses report adoptive parents, Sandy and Casey Parsons, told the public she had gone to live with her grandmother. She was reported missing by her adoptive brother in 2013.

After her adopted father led police to her remains in 2016 it was determined she had been dead since 2011, when she was just 13 years old.

Both adoptive parents are currently in prison for defrauding the government by accepting benefits for Erica after her disappearance.

Erica was finally laid to rest in February 2017.

Rowan County District Attorney, Brandi Cook, is reviewing evidence, along with the results of the autopsy, with Rowan County Sheriff's Office Investigators to determine the types of criminal charges that may now be made against Casey and Sandy Parsons
