GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Freezing temperatures have left roads covered in ice across the Triad after Wednesday's storm dumped snow across the state.

Officials are urging people to stay off the roads which are extremely dangerous. Right now, black ice is the main threat.

Since black ice is highly transparent, it is unlikely you'll be able to see it while driving down the road.

Some tips for driving on ice include:

  • Keep your steering wheel straight.
  • Do not brake.
  • Take your foot off the accelerator to reduce speed.
  • Use extreme caution on bridges and overpasses because those are some of the most dangerous areas.

Ice could also be a problem during the Friday morning commute.
