A teenager charged with injuring a police officer who was dragged by a stolen car in June appeared in court Wednesday for a hearing about evidence in the case.

Justin Murrell is charged with attempted murder.

Police say the then-15-year-old was behind the wheel of a stolen Honda in Flatbush when Officer Dalsh Veve approached him.

He wanted to question the teen about gunshots heard in the area, but Murrell sped off with the officer holding on to the car for two blocks.

"There's never a routine for a police officer," said Pat Lynch, president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association. "You're going on a gun run, you hope to get there and find nothing. This time, what he found, a violent gang member felon who dragged him down the street and tried to kill him, while he was hanging on to that vehicle, tried to side swipe vehicles to get him off the car. That's what we are talking about. Don't be faked by the smile."

Veve is still in a rehab facility unable to speak.

Murrell remains behind bars and has been denied bail.
