The Piedmont and foothills will wake up to widespread dense fog Tuesday morning, prompting Dense Fog Advisories region wide. Once the fog lifts by late morning, temperatures will warm quickly to well above average levels and stay that way for the remainder of the week.

Dense fog will be the main weather headliner Tuesday. Visibility could drop to less than a quarter of a mile at times across the Piedmont, potentially making for difficult travel conditions for Tuesday morning commuters.

The fog should be lifting by late Tuesday morning, revealing another day of mostly cloudy skies but with much warmer temperatures. With winds back out of the south, daytime highs will likely top off in the low 70s for a good portion of lower elevations, with 60s in the mountains.

Patchy drizzle cannot be ruled out through this afternoon and this evening, with an increased chance along the Blue Ridge tonight.

Wednesday into the upcoming weekend will feature similar weather: cloudy, warm, with chances for spotty showers. Temperatures will reach to near record levels for both daily highs and lows as a very mild airmass remains in place.

Highs will remain in the 70s through at least Sunday with 60s in the High Country.
