Right now, it’s David versus Goliath.

Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb’s campaign for governor in the last month has raised $16,026 and has just over $15,000 in cash on hand. Kolb’s Assembly campaign account shows he has $220,425 in cash on hand.

Kolb’s largest single donor gave him a $2,600 donation.

The only other Republican declared so far in the race is former Erie County Executive Joel Giambra, who does not appear to have conducted any fundraising since announcing his intention to run. Board of Elections records show he has $227,849 in cash on hand from a previously created account.

Democratic former Sen. Terry Gipson, who formed a committee to challenge Cuomo for the party’s nomination, reported $4,283 in the bank. He’s raised $6,592.

It would be a daunting, if not impossible, task for either man to catch with the fundraising of incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whose campaign reported $30.4 million in cash on hand over raising $5.8 million in the last six months.

Businessman Harry Wilson, a former candidate for comptroller, was the preferred gubernatorial hope of some GOP county officials under the theory that he would have been able to partially self-fund the campaign effort. Wilson this month bowed out of a statewide race.
