SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the second straight year, Maple Grove has come up short in the state football championship round.

The Red Dragons fell 26-14 to Cambridge on Friday at the Carrier Dome in the NYSPHSAA Class D championship. The result was itself a repeat of last year's game, as Cambridge also defeated Maple Grove last season in the title game.

Easton Tanner's 55-yard interception return for a Maple Grove touchdown in the fourth quarter made it a one-score ballgame, but the Red Dragons couldn't add any more points after that. Colton Dean scored two rushing touchdowns for the victors, while the Red Dragons' Zach Fischer caught a 5-yard touchdown pass on a fourth-and-goal late in the first quarter.
