BALLSTON SPA, N.Y --  Students put their LEGO robots to the test on Saturday.

Teams took part in a LEGO League qualifying tournament at Ballston Spa High School.

This year's challenge focused on hydro dynamics.

Children 9 to 14 years old were required to build and program robots to operate independently while finding, transporting and disposing water.

Their robots were then judged on their performance.

The challenges are meant to help students develop critical thinking and problem solving skills.
