Students in the Syracuse City School District once again have hats and gloves for the winter, thanks to the Wladis Law Firm and 60 other companies.

More than 10,000 hats and gloves are donated each year through the effort, a tradition 21 years old and going strong. It’s a small gesture that organizers say they’re happy to make each winter.

“They come to school, they’re ready to learn,” said Mark Wladis, president of the law firm. “They’re warm, they’re not coming to school cold and that to us is you’re helping the city survive, you’re helping the kids survive. It’s a little thing but it goes a long way.”

The annual giveaway started at Seymour Elementary School and now provides each pre-K through eighth grade student in the city with a hat and pair of gloves.
