Two Genesee County men are facing jail time after placing a fraudulent Craigslist ad with the intent of robbing potential buyers.

Several people alerted the Batavia Police Department about an ad on Craigslist for a vehicle for sale and said the posters acted suspiciously.

Jaequele Tomlin, 23, of Batavia, and Quamane Santiago, 19, of Stafford, were arrested this week for posting a “Vehicle for Sale” ad on Craigslist. Both men also had replica firearms in their possession when they were arrested.

They’re facing fourth-degree conspiracy charges. Tomlin also was arrested on a city of Batavia warrant for criminal mischief and assault. Police say additional charges are pending.

Anyone else who might have contacted Santiago and Tomlin about their ad, or any other Craigslist ad that seems suspicious, should contact Detective Sergeant Kevin Czora at 585-345-6311.
